Burning Orchard

Burning Orchard

The tree that bears these apples is one of a number that form a large orchard – a breathtaking and mouthwatering sight at the right time of year. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have an orchard. The orchard lies in the grounds of a castle.
The apples are ripe and tempting, and could refer to a number of things – biblical and art historical, etc, and their rich, vivid colour ought to make for a striking painting.
The barely suppressed anger in its title might suggest rebellion, the starting point for a modern-day Peasants’ Revolt triggered by the wealthy landowner hoarding his delicious harvest, although the thought of several trees ablaze seems a far cry from this idyllic scene.
